Logi's Banishment

Session 24, Castle Ravenloft. Strahd forced Logi to confess to a killing he did not do, and Taara, with Strahd, banished him back to Ashenwood.

The staged version

Taara told Strahd she was happy with the people she had met. He told her they were not as they seemed, "I'll show you", and took her to the basement under the kitchen. There he showed her his version of events: Mark as Vess's killer, Logi as the one who did nothing to stop it, and Strahd himself as the one who got Vess to safety.

The confession

In the library Strahd called in the blood contract Logi had signed in session 23. It bought one service, and he spent it here: Logi told Taara that he and Mark had killed Vess together.

It was a lie. Vess was the stag Mark beheaded in the kitchen without knowing who she was, and Logi and Khione were the ones who stabilized her afterwards. The confession matched what Strahd had shown Taara in the basement.

Strahd did not stop there. He also framed Logi for the deaths of children earlier in the campaign, folding in a real grievance Myra already held against him from the Hag encounter, and played all of it onto Taara to convince her that the party, and Logi above all, could not be trusted.

The sentence

Taara, with Strahd, sent Logi away to Ashenwood, the village that had banished him once already as a child. She judged on the one confession: no investigation, no hearing from the party.

After

  • Session 25. At Ashenwood Logi killed the titan, took its fire, and was reconciled with his circle. At the end of it he came back through a portal onto the library shelf Strahd had taken him from.
  • Session 26. Strahd closed the contract: one service spent on the confession, discharged both ways and never to be invoked again. The command it bought still stands. Vess walked out of the castle alive that morning.
  • Between sessions 24 and 26 Taara's memory of the banishment went missing. Myra told her the fact in session 26. The memory came back to her in session 31 (The Erasure).

Taara does not know the confession was forced.
