Session 30 — Whatever Crosses Pays the Water
Area: the Sorceress's den, then Ether (or what Taara believes is Ether)
Context
The prepared session played only at its edges. The party went to the den after Myra, and the Sorceress explained herself, but the pack, Zuleika, the Holy Symbol in Mother Night's pile and the claim were never reached. The session turned on Logi's fire instead, and it ended with half the party on another plane.
The Den
The party followed Myra to the den the Sorceress had taken her to.
Inside, a blood transfer spell was worked on Myra and Kyra to take blood samples from both sisters: one bitten, one not, the same blood twice.
The Sorceress explained what she was doing. She and her people want to understand the curses. All of them. She did not hide it.
The Fire
Logi came in and cast a fire spell inside the den.
The Sorceress turned on him. The fire is Strahd's: where it burns, the lord's hand can reach, and Logi had just carried it into their home. She locked Logi in a cage.
Mark was caged too. He was carrying the evil sword, and that was enough.
The fire did a second thing. Other werewolves now know where the den is. They are coming, and getting closer.
Myra's Argument
With Logi and Mark in cages, Myra tried to convince the Sorceress to take Kept Memories out of Strahd's castle (Kept Memories), and with it to get Taara on their side.
The Transfer
Taara cast the Transfer spell, with Myra's help. It moved Ether's Flame out of Logi and into her Amulet of the Planes.
Logi was helpless. He was in the cage, and nobody asked him.
The flame of the Ashenwood elemental, the one carrying Strahd's curse, is no longer in Logi. His own fire stayed with him. Cinder is fine.
The Crossing
Taara has always worn the Amulet of the Planes. She never spoke about it, and nobody in the party knew what it was until she used it.
Taara used the Amulet to travel the planes, to Ether. She took Myra and Logi with her. Logi went out of the cage: the crossing took a few of the cage's spokes with them, and left a gap in the bars.
Mark was just out of range. The crossing caught him anyway, and differently: his evil side was carried off to an unknown plane, and the evil sword went with it. What was left standing in the den is Mark without it. He is a pure soul now, and he still has a good sword.
On Ether
Taara, Myra and Logi stood on Ether.
Taara heard Strahd's voice, through Ether's Flame inside her Amulet.
Where It Stands
- Taara, Myra, Logi and Cinder are on Ether, or what Taara believes is Ether. The Amulet of the Planes brought them.
- Ether's Flame is in the Amulet. Logi no longer carries it, but he still has his own fire. Cinder is fine.
- Strahd's voice reached Taara there, through Ether's Flame inside her Amulet.
- Mark is a pure soul. His evil side and the evil sword are on a plane nobody knows. He still has a good sword. He is in the den, in a cage with a gap where a few spokes used to be.
- Khione, Yager, Kyra and the Sorceress are still at the den.
- Werewolves are closing on the den. Logi's fire showed them where it is.
- The Sorceress has blood from both sisters.

Fill in or let lie: what the Sorceress answered about Kept Memories; what Strahd said; where the good sword came from, and whether it was always the other half of the evil one.
