The Cards

Cards that hold magic — Providence cards, as the cave named them in session 12. The party learned of them in the one-shot (session 1).

One folder per card: cards/<card-name>/<card-name>.md, with any art or scans of that card kept alongside it in its folder.

Cards carry a subtext line — a short phrase on the card. Six are recorded (Maiden, Crown, Veil, Thread, Well, Bone); the Nightmare's and the Knight's are not. Whether every card has one is unconfirmed.

Details pending — how the cards work, where they come from, how many exist in total, and who holds which.

Known Cards

Eight named so far; the set is larger.

Card Subtext Status
The Well "brings back pieces of the past" Power not yet known
The Veil "discovers secrets of all sorts" Held by Percival. Opened a door in session 10; power still not known
The Nightmare — Nothing recorded
The Maiden "protects all" Tested by Percival in session 2. The test killed him
The Crown "bends weaker wills" Power not yet known
The Thread "shows faith's designs and flaws" Power not yet known
Bone "speaks to who has been" Sought in the cave, sessions 11–12. Holder unrecorded
The Knight — Named session 12. Percival tried to restore it in session 13

The Making of a Providence Card

Found in the cave in session 12:

A card cannot be made from magic alone. Three things are required. The Vessel gives the power a shape. The Spirit is the price paid to awaken it. The Echo is what the creator willingly leaves behind. Without the Vessel, there is no form. Without the Spirit, there is no power. Without the Echo, there is no bond.

A broken card may lose its bond. But what was given is not necessarily lost. If the Vessel remains, the Spirit can be restored. If the Echo can still be found, the bond may be reforged.
